Face hyperpigmentation - causes of unaesthetic lesions
Most of us are born with a perfectly smooth skin of an even tone. Hyperpigmentation on the face is most often the effect of sunlight. It is are formed as a result of increased secretion and topical accumulation of melanin, which is supposed to protect the skin from the harmful effects of UVA and UVB radiation. There is also hyperpigmentation on the face after acne and hyperpigmentation occurring during pregnancy and menopause, and as a result of hormonal contraception.
Hyperpigmentation on the face caused by sunlight typically takes the form of freckles and smaller or larger spots. Of course, it may also occur in other areas of the body, e.g. on the hands or back. A characteristic variety of lesions are the so-called lentigo spots - brown hyperpigmentation on the face resulting from ageing, combined with high exposure to UV rays.
When it is too late for prophylaxis, or how to get rid of face hyperpigmentation
The best way to avoid face hyperpigmentation is prevention - first of all, the daily use of SPF 50 filter creams. However, it is not always possible to avoid skin lesions - also due to their other potential causes.
When hyperpigmentation occurs on the face, home remedies rarely prove sufficient. Such treatments may even do more harm than good.
Many patients have found that only laser removal of hyperpigmentation or other specialist treatments performed by a cosmetologist are able to give satisfactory results.

Our experienced specialists at Sense Med Concept adjust the type of treatment to meet the needs of the patient. Everything in the spirit of a holistic approach to health.
Below you will find a list describing how to remove hyperpigmentation with a laser and by means of other methods.
Multifunctional laser surgery
A laser platform uses up to three laser technologies - each dedicated to different skin problems. Removal of face hyperpigmentation is possible thanks to the iPixel Er:YAG head designed, among others, to reduce hyperpigmentation and even out the skin tone. On the other hand, the DyeVL head allows, for example, to eliminate hyperpigmentation lesions. This is a proven method to treat face hyperpigmentation, sun damage or age spots.
Thulium laser
Combining features of ablative and non-ablative technologies, the thulium laser effectively reduces face hyperpigmentation caused by sunlight. It is also recommended to patients who want to eliminate freckles, age spots and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, and to even out the skin tone. Laser removal of hyperpigmentation with this device works in an extremely delicate manner, thus reducing the risk of any complications to a minimum.
How is the face hyperpigmentation removal treatment performed? The laser operation is based on evaporation of the top layer of the epidermis, making it possible to remove hyperpigmentation. What is important, you will notice the effects already after the first treatment! In addition, the skin becomes more elastic and smooth.
CO2 laser
Removal by means of a CO2 ablative laser means performing numerous microdamages in the skin. High heat energy introduced into the tissues stimulates the skin to produce new collagen fibers. On the other hand, the ablative effect allows evaporation of the top layers of the epidermis.
CO2 laser effectively removes not only face hyperpigmentation caused by sunlight, but also the effects of sun damage, pigmentation lesions and age spots. As a result, the skin becomes smoother and brighter, and additionally regains firmness and young appearance.
Chemical peelings
If you feel that laser hyperpigmentation removal is not for you, an alternative of equal effectiveness is chemical peeling. This treatment consists in application of products developed for skin exfoliation, stimulation and nourishment. What is important, in some cases of hyperpigmentation on the face superficial peeling proves to be absolutely sufficient. The effect of such treatment is limited to the epidermis, which removes, among others, hyperpigmentation on the face caused by acne and sunlight.
Microneedle mesotherapy + chemical peeling
Another alternative for laser hyperpigmentation removal is microneedle mesotherapy. The procedure involves carrying out micropunctures. Controlled skin damage stimulates regeneration processes and contributes to increasing collagen and elastin production.
The effects of this face hyperpigmentation treatment are comparable to the effects of microneedle radiofrequency. Both methods force the self-regeneration process of the skin, which significantly contributes to the elimination of face hyperpigmentation. The effectiveness of microneedle mesotherapy can be further enhanced by the use of chemical peeling.
